wardrobe malfunctions: they're not just for celebrities anymore!

Wardrobe malfunction Poor Emma Watson.

This lovely young lady, who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, had an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction at the premiere, when a gust of wind collided with her wrap dress.

I can totally relate.

I’ve had more than my share of wardrobe malfunctions in my time. I actually had several before the term “wardrobe malfunction” was even coined. Back then they were just called “embarrassing moments.”

The first happened in second grade when I was wearing this little wrap-around skirt that my mom had made. I stood up to go to lunch and it unwrapped, exposing my little pink panties to the entire class. It was so awful. I can still hear the kids laughing!

Then, in college, I was wearing wrap dress and, just like Emma, a gust of wind blew the dress open. Did I mention I was at a graduation event? Nice.

Two weeks ago, I had the wardrobe malfunction to end all wardrobe malfunctions.

My toddler is very nervous in the pool at the Y. He eventually enjoys it, but it takes him a good 30 minutes to do more than sit in my lap while barely in the water. So I was sitting on the side of the pool with him, trying to get him play in the water by himself. He was giggling and enjoying himself, then he realized that he wasn't in my lap anymore... so he immediately scrambled to try and climb back into my lap.

When he grabbed my bathing suit top. And pulled.

Think Janet Jackson’s now infamous Superbowl half-time show incident. The one that coined the phrase “wardrobe malfunction.”

That was me. In the middle of the crowded kiddie pool at the Y. Holding a screaming toddler, who refused to let go of my bathing suit top so I could hold on to a shred of my dignity.

Luckily there were no paparazzi around to capture my embarrassing moment and splash it all over the internet. Unlike poor Emma, who gets to share her embarrassment with the world.
