I'm a Cop-Call Hater
A solicitor from a Pennsylvania Police fundraiser called me today. Again. They called me 3 times this week. And because I don't have caller ID, I can't guarantee that they only called 3 times.
Each call was from a different solicitor, and a different fund. I'm not sure they know about each other. They probably wouldn't even recognize each other at a commonwealth-wide police meeting. In fact, I recently read that they aren't likely to really be police officers. Or police chiefs. Or fire police. They're professional solicitors. The organization may not even have members of the policeforce as members of its group.
I want to support my local police. They work for us. They help us. And when we need it, I want to know that they'll be there.
But let me support them how and when I want to. Don't interrupt my baby's nap time, and the next day don't interrupt my dinner. Because while the police are reputable, considerate people, these calls are anything but respectful.
And when I tell the solicitors that I'm not interested/am busy/can't give the cash to everyone who calls me for my money in December, they don't politely understand. They refuse to let me hang up.
And suddenly its like any other fundraiser calling for money. It starts to blend with all of the cancer societies, children's funds, college scholarships and political organizations. Except that these police groups are calling several times a week.
And they're not getting my money. So, please, police groups. Stop calling my number.
This is an original Philly Moms Blog post. Julie Pron really does support her local police. Just not their phone calls.
