Philadelphia Snowstorm- Let it Snow!

IMG_3085 The Philadelphia area is getting socked with snow and just in time for Christmas.  Our family is thrilled about the prediction of 12+ inches of the fluffy white stuff.  I'm not a skier, not a fan of cold weather or icy toes. But if it's going to snow- Let It SNOW!  We haven't had a big storm in the Mid-Atlantic region in years and personally I don't enjoy or have time for only 2 inches of inconvenient mess.  Bring on the white Christmas!

My day started this morning at 6:00 a.m.  I jumped out of bed fearing that I left that minivan door open last night on the way home from the mobbed grocery store with the usual snow storm supplies (milk, eggs, bread, marshmallows, essential soup & cookie making ingredients).  Luckily, I closed the door properly- for once.  Happily, I moved on to making my crock-pot of snowstorm stew while 2 of my 3 kids were still sleeping.

With many of our activities canceled (except Santa who managed to find his way into town this morning) that gives us lots of real family time. Our original agenda of running here, there and everywhere has been replaced by our snowstorm schedule which includes: making gingerbread cookies and caramels, wrapping Christmas gifts, creating snow angels, warming up chilly noses with mugs of hot cocoa, mopping up melted snow off the floors and catching up on the piles of laundry (yes, reality!)

My husband is busy making a fire and the kids are eagerly awaiting roasting marshmallows on the sticks they have brought in from outside during their first round of angel making (which was only a few minutes long as my son refused to wear his snow coat!)  Watching them in awe of the falling snow brings back so many great memories of my own childhood. It's nearly impossible to not get into the holiday mood with the smell of cookies baking & watching the excitement in the kids' eyes as the flakes turn into piles.  Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
