I’m going to share my best kept secret with you -- I know a place where the herb, flower and vegetable plants for sale are so reasonably priced that you’ll come away with twice the number you set out to purchase. The same place sells the loveliest of green salad mixes, freshly picked and bagged and made beautiful by the addition of edible flowers and pea shoots. In addition in the small structure that houses the cash register you’ll find herbal tinctures, soaps, breads -- all homemade. Now, here’s the rub -- most of you will have to map-quest Honey Brook, Pa., to find your way to King’s Herb Nook on 1060 Compass Road.
I don’t know the herbalist owner, Rosanna King, much at all -- though I’ve shared stories about my own herbal apprenticeship with her. She’s from a different herbal healing tradition than the one I studied (she was a student of Dr. Christopher) much younger than I am and half the time she’s speaking in German with the other members of her large Mennonite family -- but I like her immensely.
